On Friday 3rd March, we were lucky enough to have a visit to our
school, Gaddesden Row Junior Mixed Infant School, from Miss Smith and Mrs
Mortimer. They held an author assembly to share their new book 'Adventures in
Golfing Little Ball Gets Chosen'.
During
the assembly they read the book to the children and then held a question and
answer session to help explain the process of writing and illustrating a book
and the publishing process as well as let the children get to know them a
little better. Miss Smith shared a story about how she didn't really like
English at school and was told she would do better if she got her head off the
sports field and into the classroom. Her passion for sport and in particular
golf and her desire to get more children interested in golf and reading led her
to write this book.
After
the assembly, workshops were held with Class Meerkats (Reception and Year One)
and Class Kangaroos (Year Two and Year Three). During the workshop, the
children learned about how to get ideas to develop characters for your story
and then had a go at creating their own golf ball character.
The
children had a great time and learned a great deal about
book writing and illustrating. We can't wait for them to come back and share
their next book when it is released!
