Former student author and illustrator visited the school today.
Two former St John Fisher students, siblings Hannah Smith and Blanche Mortimer, came back to the school today, Friday 19th May, to talk to the children about being published authors. Hannah Smith is a keen golfer and decided to write about something she loves, she has written a book called Adventures in Golfing - Little Ball Gets Chosen, illustrated by Blanche Mortimer. They led an assembly where they read the book to the school and signed copies of the book for the children and gifted a copy to our library. After this, they conducted workshops with our Year 1/2 and Year 3 classes. We were all very impressed with the questions the children asked them, including "How did you come up with the idea for the book?" and "How did you name the characters?". The children then followed this up by coming up with some fantastic ideas for some new characters, including 'Sky', who loves flying in the sky and 'Shorty', who always finds his way to the short grass on the golf course.
What a wonderful example of how dreams can come true!
